Over 100km of high risk pipe work has been assessed for a major UK water utility.
Consequence of an event, likelihood of failure and the remaining asset life has been assessed between line valves.
Carried out using SSI Test Inspect and Consult, a division of Hydrosave, the project comprised:
CDM-C and close working relationship with Amey.
Risk Modelling using performance data and operational information to assess likelihood and consequence of events
Non Destructive Testing (NDT) – to assess remaining asset life
Pipe coupon extraction and destructive testing
Soils analysis – site and lab tests
Recommended risk mitigation and investment planning
The project resulted in a comprehensive review of asset performance, risk and the establishment of investment plans:
With improved knowledge, investment plans were limited to isolated sections of 12km of pipeline
Full-bore tappings and gate valves were installed by SSI TIC for future in-pipe leak detection, flow monitoring, CCTV or installation of early warning burst monitors
To coincide with sites selected for excavation, listening posts were also installed on trunk mains to assist with future leak correlation
