Integrated Water Services (IWS) employees Dean Adams and Vaughan Reid undertook the Longest Day Golf Challenge on 21 June 2017 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. SSI Services were delighted to make a company donation support the event.
The aim of the challenge is to club together a team of up to four players and get set for the challenge on the longest day 21 June (or any day around this). Participants need all their strength and heroics to take on this championship distance of 72 holes, 300(ish) shots and 20 miles of walking.
2016 saw over 3,000 teams cross the UK sign up to play 72 holes in just one day, and raise 1.5 million for people affected by cancer. This year it was IWS M&E’s Dean Adams and Vaughan Reid’s turn to take on the challenge. The team ended up walking almost 20 miles all carrying their clubs and played 15 hours of golf in one day. The team were committed to raising money for Macmillan Cancer support, as most members of the team have lost someone to cancer and understand what a fantastic service they provide, it was also a bit of a personal / fun challenge to see if they could do it.
Macmillan Cancer Support’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. Macmillan is a source of support for people living with cancer today and are a force for improving cancer care.
To date they have raised an amazing £2700 which includes a donation of £100 from SSI Services and £100 from IWS.
