“Transitioning to Work” : Omega Red helping to get Students work ready

From picking which industry, mastering the art of personal development, handling assessment centres and psychometric tests, careers can often be a confusing subject for University students. With this in mind, it is easy to see why a lot of students struggle with career choices.


The Transitioning to work event took place on the 26th February 2018 at  De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).  Its aim was to provide long-term career planning and guidance to students. Omega Red’s finance director Ranbir Bhalla, was part of a panel advising the students.  Ranbir was able to share his personal career experiences and advise the students on how to clinch their dream job.


The panel consisted of employees from companies such as IBM ix, Head Red, Stonegate Mortgages, Amazon and Omega Red Group. The organiser, Dr Dyneshia Johnson, arranged this inspirational event in a talk show format. She is the Business and Law (BAL) associate Professor for Accreditation at De Montfort University Leicester DMU,


What is undeniable, is the intense competition in the graduate job market. Despite this, students should not take the one size fits all approach and pick jobs according to their personalities.

Omega Red Finance Director advised the students not to “rush into the wrong job”, instead be patient and use the time for professional development. He was out of work for a year and used the time to complete his professional accountancy exams.

In 2017 The office of National statistics stated the number of graduates was 14 million. In light of this, the panellists highlighted that a lot of people now have degrees. Students need to be able to differentiate themselves to show prospective employers why they are the preferred candidate.
